Fan Appreciation Night at PRC tonight for Lincs’ final regular season game
By Spencer Seymour
After a tough 5-4 defeat in Sarnia last Thursday, the Lincolns rebounded in very exciting fashion the following evening when they returned to St. Marys.
With the list of players out of the lineup seemingly never ending, the Lincs were going in with a disadvantage even against the bottom-seeded Lambton Shores Predators. After jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first, thanks to goals by Billy Moskal and Justin Vanderdool, the Predators fought back to tie the game. The Lincolns fell behind in the second period 3-2, but tied the game on Tyson Kielt’s goal. In the third period, Zachary Smith and Alessio Luciani put St. Marys up 5-3. However, the Predators just did not go away. Just 15 seconds after Luciani restored the two goal lead for the home team, Lambton Shores brought the game back to within one. They went on to retake the lead thanks to a strange goal from beside the net that somehow found a way past goalie Graham Dynes. However, not to be outdone, less than a minute after they took the lead, the Predators would give it up with Brent West burying the game-tying goal. The game would need overtime, and in the extra frame, the sharpshooting leading scorer for the Lincs, Alessio Luciani, would pot his second goal and fifth point of the evening to win the game for St. Marys 7-6.
The game on Wednesday, however, would not be quite as exciting for Lincolns fans. Traveling to LaSalle for their third-to-last game of the season, they fell on the road 4-1 to the Vipers. Dynes would get the start again and would play well despite the loss, making 33 saves on 37 shots. Colin Capstick also got the lone St. Marys goal, with an assist from Matthew Zilke and Vanderdool.
The Lincolns now look ahead to their final weekend of the regular season. Tonight is “Fan Appreciation Night” at the PRC as the Lincolns take on the Chatham Maroons in the final regular season game at St. Marys of the year. This week, free tickets will be given away at Tim Hortons, Sunset Diner, the PRC along with numerous sponsor locations as a “thank you” to the community for all of the great support this season. The night will also include several Fan Giveaways including a $150 Wildstone Bar & Grill gift certificate, Sunset Diner gift certificate, Carpe Vinum membership, and plenty of team merchandise.
The Lincolns close out their regular season on the road on Sunday as they head to St. Thomas to pay a visit to the Stars. This game potentially will have playoff implications as St. Thomas trails St. Marys by just two points in the battle for 6th place in the Western Conference. If the standings stay the way they are currently, the Lincolns would face the London Nationals in the first round of the playoffs.
