Lincolns’ lose big against Strathroy, rebound against the Stars

By Spencer Seymour

When the Rockets rolled into the Pyramid Recreation Centre last Friday, they had one thing on their mind; redemption. Having lost to the Lincs back on January 28, they had a chip on their shoulder and used it to their full advantage.

The Lincolns were facing an uphill battle from the opening puck drop as they were missing a handful of key players due to injury. Forwards Kenny Chisholm and Mitch Bakker and defensemen Andrew Bogdan, Garrett Nelson and Eric Gibb are all out of the lineup.

Strathroy jumped out to a 2-0 lead and put up three goals in the third period to cement their victory. Lincolns’ forward Tanner Hertel had a strong game, putting up both goals for the Lincs, with Alessio Luciani, Billy Moskal, Brent West and Tyson Kielt all getting assists. Goalie Tristan Lewis also made 24 saves on 30 shots, before being pulled early in the third period, replaced by Graham Dynes.

However on Sunday, the Lincs bounced back in high-octane action. Hosting the St. Thomas Stars in front of a raucous 430 fans, the Lincolns fought back from being down 2-1 to defeat the Stars 3-2. Getting a splash of controversy to add to the action, both teams early on had a goal called back. Luciani opened the scoring for the Lincolns in the first period, assisted by West and Hertel. The Lincs fell behind 2-1 by the end of the second but were not going to be deterred. Goalie Tristan Lewis once again put in a stellar performance, making 37 saves. Hertel and Colin Capstick scored for St. Marys in the third period, with Luciani and West getting the assists on both goals.

Last night, the Lincs traveled to Sarnia to take on the Legionnaires. St. Marys defeated the Legionnaires back on Feb. 3 by a score of 4-2 and currently sit six points back of Sarnia. They are back at the PRC tonight as they welcome in the last place Lambton Shores Predators. Fans are especially encouraged to attend as tonight is “First Responders Night”, where the team will honor the firefighters, police officers and Emergency Medical Services of our community.
