This week’s donation from the Pass It On Store set the perfect tone as the St. Marys Memorial Hospital Foundation’s “Someone I Know” campaign looks towards the final stretch. As store owner Carey Pope relayed during the cheque presentation, the $1,000 donation was built up piece-by-piece, with $5 from each sale of vintage cement bags sold allocated towards the hospital campaign. No matter the size of a contribution, together with others it can add up to a lot.
John McIntosh, chair of the St. Marys Hospital Foundation, was pleased to report this week that the “Someone I Know” fundraising campaign has now raised $4.5 million towards their goal of $5.0 million. He’s hoping that by raising community awareness of the progress, local families and small businesses will help the campaign push past the $5 million target. “The community has stepped forward so wonderfully, so much so that we are hoping to complete the campaign this year…perhaps even in the first half of the year,” said McIntosh.
Donations of $1,000 or more, from any family, group or organization will be displayed on the recognition wall that will be featured just inside the Hospital’s main entrance. Pledges are encouraged to be spread over a period of five years or less, though all donations are welcome and appreciated. McIntosh added, “Although this campaign will end when we reach our goal, our fundraising at the Hospital Foundation will continue. We want to always be ahead of the game and be improving the services available at our hospital.”
The goals of the current “Someone I Know” campaign include refurbishment of patient rooms, investing in state-of-the-art technology and equipment, and building an expansion to the Tradition Mutual Centre for Wellness. Through this Wellness Centre expansion, the hospital will see its current slate of doctors grow by 33%, from 9 to 12 over time.
