Lincolns’ 2016 attendance figures among league-best by capita

By Stewart Grant

At last week’s St. Marys Lincolns Members Meeting, it was noted that crowds are up significantly this year at the Pyramid Recreation Centre.

According to league statistics collected through mid-December, St. Marys is middle-of-the-pack (16th) in the 27-team Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League. However, a deeper look inside the numbers tells a more meaningful story.

With a population of 6,655 (2011 census), St. Marys is the smallest centre in the GOJHL. On a by-capita basis, St. Marys ranks 3rd out of 27 in attendance this season, bested only slightly by Listowel and Elmira, and ahead of Stratford.

While Listowel and Elmira are ranked 1st and 2nd, respectively, in their conference this season, the Lincolns are continuing their rebuild and are currently battling for 7th place in the Western Conference. This makes the Lincolns’ home attendance statistics all the more promising.

The balance of the 2016/17 schedule is filled with special events nearly every Friday, including tonight’s Christmas Game at 7:30 p.m. where even Santa Claus himself has made arrangements to attend. Hope to see you there!
