On Wednesday morning at the St. Marys Tennis Courts, Andrea Hodges, the driving force behind the 2014 “Support Our Courts” reconstruction of the courts, held a ceremony to dedicate a new donor wall recognizing the many local people and groups who helped make the idea a reality. Pictured, from left, are Rena Spevack, chair of the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s grant review team, Rob “Mr. Tennis” Favacho, and Andrea Hodges. The donor wall points out that the recent court rehabilitation was the first major work at the site since the courts were constructed in 1952 and 1974. In a speech, Hodges commented on how the process first got underway about four-and-a-half years ago. Financial support from Rob Taylor and contributions from the Kinsmen Club of St. Marys and the Town of St. Marys provided them with momentum as they began the Trillium grant process, she added. Two years ago, the project received a grant of $70,000 from Ontario Trillium Foundation. Since the courts were completed, they are busy all throughout the summer, Hodges said, and local tennis players (and their knees) are glad to have them.
