The St. Marys Museum is kicking off the festive season with its Christmas Open House on Sunday, Dec. 4, from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm. This annual event is co-sponsored by the St. Marys-on-the-Thames Historical Society and the range of activities planned will appeal to visitors of all ages.
No open house would be complete without music and food. Members of the musical group, Corduroy Gordon, will perform throughout the afternoon. Any children at the event should be ready to dance, and their accompanying adults can dance too. As for food, there will be cider and cookies for all.
The Museum’s Christmas exhibit, Dreaming of a White Christmas, will officially open on Dec. 4. It explores all things wintry, highlighting cold weather activities from Christmases past. A craft area will be set up for children to make their own winter sock snowman. Museum staff also recently received word that Santa plans to attend this event.
The Open House is a great opportunity to accomplish some Christmas shopping. There are fabulous gift ideas in the Friends of the Museum Gift Shop, especially for anyone with an interest in local history. Items include historic photographs, local history books, magnets, note cards and slate roofing tiles from St. Marys Town Hall. A silent auction will take place throughout the afternoon with some unique gifts as well, including benches from the newly renovated Town Hall auditorium balcony seating.
The St. Marys Museum is located at 177 Church Street South in Cadzow Park. Everyone is welcome at the Christmas Open House. Admission is free. For more information, call the St. Marys Museum at 519-284-3556.
