OPP investigating robbery at M&M Variety

Perth County Ontario Provincial Police officers are investigating a robbery that took place on Wednesday, October 26 in St. Marys.

Shortly before 9:42 pm a male suspect entered the M & M Variety Store located on Water Street South in St. Marys. Once inside the store the male suspect threatened the clerk and then proceeded to make attempts to access the cash register.

The suspect fled the variety store in an unknown direction. At this point in the investigation it is not clear how much cash, if any, was taken from the register. Police were investigating on Water Street on Thursday looking for camera footage that may have shown the suspect.

Police told the Independent that it didn’t appear as though much forethought had gone into the crime.

The suspect is described as being a Caucasian male, between 20 and 40 years of age, around 5’8” in height, with a slim to medium build. He is said to have a “scruffy appearance”. He was wearing dark coloured clothing.

Members from the West Region OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and an OPP Canine Unit attended the scene to assist with the investigation.

This investigation is ongoing. Should further information become available it will be released at that time.
