Extra Innings – News From The Ball Hall

The Museum is closed for the season, but may be pre-booked for group tours by contacting 519-284-1838 or  baseball@baseballhalloffame.ca.  We reopen on May 5, 2017 on our spring schedule.

Speaking of group tours, we recently hosted 24 members of the Tillsonburg Cruisers Car Club. Yet another bunch of satisfied visitors, they went away with good impressions and a good deal of merchandise from the gift shop.

Another guest on a beautiful October day was Len Price, who played with Wayne Gretzky on Baseball Canada’s 1973 National Pee Wee Champions, the Chatham Kinsmen PeeWees.  He got a kick out of the team photo displayed on the entry wall of the Museum’s Canadian room and insisted on having his photo taken – with a baseball bat – in front of the Museum.

Of course, all eyes are on the Toronto Blue Jays.  In particular, we’re watching the Canadian content on the post-season roster: Russell Martin, Michael Saunders and Dalton Pompey, as well as Jim Henderson (NY Mets) and Rob Zastryzny (Chicago Cubs).

The Hall of Fame attended the Jays-Orioles Wild Card game on Tuesday, October 4th in Toronto. While there we got great photos of the 3 Canadians and caught up with all the major media.  We also met current NFL Seattle Seahawks superstar tight end and former Team Canada baseball player Luke Willson, who mentioned that he played on Cement Field here in St. Marys back in his baseball days.

Kiefer Sutherland narrates a great post-season video promoting The Jays (available for viewing on thescore.com) so lots of Canadian content there, but 2015 Inductee Bob Elliott made a great point in his recent Canadian Baseball Network column. He asked why Rogers would not hire someone like Hall of Famers Fergie Jenkins (Chatham, ON) or Larry Walker (Maple Ridge, BC). Why not indeed!

Finally, here are some bits of Canadian post-season baseball trivia:
