Parade on Friday Sept 16th at 11 am
“Save VIA” has changed its name to “All Aboard St. Marys” to reflect the need for better rail service, and not just VIA service, according to committee member Chris West. As part of its relaunch, and with the full support and encouragement of St. Marys Town Council, All Aboard St. Marys Day will feature a parade which is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 16. The parade will start at the Junction Station at 11:00 am and the 22-minute march will end at the Train Station. Parade participants may walk, run or bike on the approved route. There are a number of events planned, including a children’s train, water stations along the way, and a Rotary Club BBQ at the station. Parking will be provided at the Junction Station and transportation back to the Junction Station will be provided between noon until 2:00 pm from the VIA Station. West said that there are day-long events planned and he hopes that this event will receive wide publicity and draw attention to the problem with rail service. West said that the event is being held days before Parliament returns for the fall sitting and hopes that a big turnout for the march will be noticed in Ottawa, with the hope of improving rail service.
