The St. Marys Lincolns began their 2016-2017 GOJHL pre-season with a game Wednesday in Listowel against the Cyclones, and continue their tune-up schedule tonight in Stratford against the newly-renamed Warriors.

Meanwhile, for St. Marys’ newly revamped front office, there are a few more considerations keeping them busy prior to the first puck drop of the season – Saturday, Sept. 10 at London’s Western Fair for the annual GOJHL Showcase.

Number one on the list is finding willing “billet families” for players, Lincolns President Brandon Boyd said. Host families are compensated $500 per month. Anyone interested can visit Lincs.ca or contact Lincolns General Manager Glen Childerley at glenchilderley@lincs.ca.

The team is also excited about their $99 season ticket special for the team’s 60th anniversary year. This year’s season ticket price represents a $61 decrease from last year’s $160 season tickets. Lincolns season tickets are available from Guest Services at the Pyramid Centre.

As recently as Sunday, the team was actively looking for a few more local businesses to sign on as sweater sponsors. However, by Wednesday morning they had hit their target of 20 jersey sponsors, ranging in contribution from $1,000 (silver level) to $2,500 (All Star). Benefits of sponsorship include, among other things, advertisements in Lincolns programs, in-game announcement promotion, and being recognized on team banners at home games.

Those interested in singing O Canada at Lincolns home games this season are invited to make inquiries to director Blake Mossey (blakemossey@lincs.ca).

Finally, to prepare for the team’s first home game against London at 7:30 pm Friday, Sept. 16, the Sunset Diner (343 Queen Street West) will be holding Lincolns Week from Sept. 12-16. The inside of the restaurant “will be decked out in Lincolns Memorabilia,” Boyd said. “Be sure to mark Sept. 15 on your calendar, as the players will be serving wings that evening.”

Season tickets will be available, and free passes will be given out for the home opener against the Nationals. Meanwhile, don’t forget about Sunday’s pre-season home game at the PRC against the Warriors, or their final pre-season showdown next Friday in St. Marys against Listowel.
