Town of St. Marys seeking input on updated Strategic Plan

The Town of St. Marys wants to hear from you. The organization is currently in the process of updating its Strategic Plan and is looking for feedback from local stakeholders.

The Town’s first Strategic Plan was approved in 2010, following extensive consultation with community members. The plan offered valuable insights into St. Marys’ socioeconomic environment, and proposed a number of actions the Town could take to achieve its strategic goals.

In 2015, the Town undertook a review of the 2010 plan and determined that much of the data and many of the recommendations were still relevant. With that in mind, the Town worked with consultants Irwin & Associates to draft the St. Marys Strategic Plan Revision and Update, which is available in draft form at www.townofstmarys.com/strategicplan.

The St. Marys Strategic Plan Revision and Update sets out to help shape the community’s future, provide structure for the Town’s goals, define the purpose of the community at large and balance community goals and objectives with realistic local resources. It is based on six pillars that represent key priorities for the Town, including infrastructure, communication and marketing, balanced growth, culture and recreation, economic development and housing.

The Town is now offering residents the opportunity to share their opinions on the updated plan. A survey will be available online and at Town Hall from Friday, August 12 to Friday, September 2. Individual survey questions will also be posted on the Town’s Facebook page during the week of August 22. Community members who prefer to provide comments in person can attend one of two open houses, happening in Council Chambers on Thursday, August 25 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday, August 27 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Feedback from residents will be collected and analyzed by Town staff and Council before the plan is finalized and adopted. Staff will then prepare an implementation plan for Council to consider as part of their annual budget cycle.
