The Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario are partnering to assist Employers to train new or existing Employees.
They are offering to share in the cost of tuition to enhance Employee’s skills.
The training must be delivered by an eligible third party, such as, Community or Career College, University or private trainer.
The COJG may be used to support tuition fees, mandatory student fees, requited text books/software and exam fees.
An example: Company ABC, is considering promoting an Employee to be a Supervisor and wants to provide the Employee with a Management Program at a Community College. The tuition is $6,000. Company ABC goes on line and submits a COJG application (http://www.tcu.gov.on.ca/org/eopg/cojg). The application requests that the Government of Ontario pay 1/3 of the tuition ($2,000), the Government of Canada pay 1/3 of the tuition ($2,000) and Company ABC will pay 1/3 of the tuition ($2,000). As a result of the training the Employee will be given a promotion.
Another example: Company 123, is wanting to enhance the existing 15
Supervisor’s skills by providing long term supervisory training which includes 1 week of off site training and a four month on site Coach. The training tuition is $5,000 per Employee for a total cost of $75,000. The COJG application request would be for 2/3rd ($50,000) of the tuition.
As a result of the training, the Employee will receive a wage increase.
Another example: Company XYZ has 4 plumbers on a seasonal layoff.
The Employer wishes them to enhance their skills by getting their Gas Fitters ticket, so they will have year round employment.
The tuition is $4,000 per Employee for a total of $16,000. The COJG application request would be for 2/3rd ($10,666) of the tuition. The Employees will go from seasonal to full time employment.
There is a maximum amount of $10,000 per employee. Partners in Employment is the Employment Ontario service provider that can approve the funding for 25 or less employees and the MAESD (formerly MTCU) approves funding for more than 25 employees.
