With extreme heat and humidity in the forecast, the Town of St. Marys is reminding residents about the locations of local cooling centres, pools and the splash pad. This past week has been brutal for some, and we must remember to be good neighbours and check on seniors and young families who may not have air conditioning in their place of residence. If you want to keep cool, here are the two Town cooling centres you can visit.
The Pyramid Recreation Centre is open Monday to Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The St. Marys Public Library is open Monday to Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. but closed on Sundays. Of course, many stores including the grocery stores have air conditioning.
For those who want to cool down in the water there are three pools in town.
There is the Aquatics Centre Pool at the Pyramid Recreation Centre at James Street South. Cadzow Pool on Park Street is open June 30 to Sept. 5 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. (Daily) and in July is open Monday and Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
The third one is, of course, the Quarry on 425 Water Street South and is open June 30 to Sept. 5 from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. (Daily).
For the young ones, they can take advantage of the Splashpad which is located at the Pyramid Recreation Centre. It is open from May 21 to Sept. 5 from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (Weather permitting)
So try to stay cool and enjoy the summer!
