“Nostalgic climb” earns trespass tickets

On Friday July 1, shortly before 3:00 am, Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to the former Arthur Meighen Public School in St. Marys where people were reportedly trespassing on the property.

Upon arriving at the old school, officers observed a number of individuals on the roof of the building. The four males and two females all St. Marys residents, were in their early twenties. They all admitted that this “nostalgic climb” on the roof of their old school had been a bad idea.

They were all issued a Trespass to Property Act ticket for the offence of; “enter premises when entry prohibited”.

The Perth County OPP wants to remind the public that the former Arthur Meighen School is private property and as such trespassers on the property may face charges. They will also continue to actively patrol the area as part of their “focused patrol strategy”.

Anyone observing trespassers or persons causing mischief on the property is requested to contact the Perth County OPP immediately at 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), and you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000
