The Muir family have been dedicated advocates of the annual fundraiser, held in partnership with Community Living St. Marys and Area, for over a decade, ever since Janelle’s sister Carrie-Anne had to have her teeth pulled due to their deterioration from medication she was on for her disability. Government funding was not available to support new dentures or implants, so the ‘Create a Smile’ Foundation began.
Over the past 12 years, the foundation has raised over $155,000 to support people with intellectual and physical disabilities, including the purchase of assistive devices. McLean said funds raised at this years event will go towards providing secure housing for the disabled. “This donation is a wonderful, wonderful start,” she said.
