A pair of announcements signalling some major developments at the St. Marys Golf and Country Club were made this past weekend at the club’s Third Annual Bridal Open House. The first, and one sure to have an impact on those who will be planning weddings in St. Marys in the years to come, is the construction of “The Hideaway,” a new wedding and event venue that is scheduled to be available to hold wedding celebrations in May 2017.
An artist’s rendering and description of the planned new venue can be found online at StMarysWedding.ca/venue-b. The new hall is described as being “inspired by old world details and rustic elegance,” and will feature “a wood ceiling with wood beams stretching from East to West, with four large glass garage doors” opening out to the golf course. It will be able to accommodate up to 210 guests, and be primarily used during “the warmer months, when its glass garage doors open to the rolling landscape and private terrace surrounding the room.”
In other news, the course also has plans to build a new golf maintenance facility this fall that they say will help the course’s head superintendent and co-owner Sandy Fifield and her team operate at a whole new level of quality and efficiency. Features of the new facility, which will be located to the east of the clubhouse, include storage for over 80 golf carts as well as the course’s lawn tractors, greens mowers, bunker sand and fertilizer, as well as space to conduct maintenance on the course’s machines, and a sharpening room for the mowers “to keep those greens rolling true.”
“As a valued community asset, with a long-term vision and focus on the future, we believe that if we continue to invest in this amazing asset, there will be benefits for the whole community,” reads a recent news post on the course’s website. “We are excited to announce the next big evolution for the St. Marys Golf & Country Club.”
